Indicações de órteses ortopédicas em pacientes com limitação de movimentos

Dênis do Nascimento Arruda Câmara and Aleksandr Braga Leite dos Santos

Abstract:

Functional limitations can be alleviated by the use of orthotics. Aiming to help health professionals in the decision to use orthoses in patients with movement limitation, this literature review was carried out, based on the search for articles with the term "Orthoses", finding 150 articles in English, of which 37 were case reports, 72 were reviews and 41 were original articles. All in UptoDate, Pubmed and NCBI databases. Among them, 78 were eliminated, because their themes were not directly related to the proposal and another 32 were excluded, because they had a little explanatory methodology, from the others, the 12 articles used as reference were chosen. It has been found that in patients with diseases such as infantile cerebral palsy, the use of orthoses can improve musculoskeletal alignment, promote function and delay or prevent joint contractures. Furthermore, a randomized study of patients with knee osteoarthritis demonstrated decreased pain and improved physical function after daily use of a cane. A systematic review also found evidence that shoes with rigid heel support, firm soles, good shock absorption and special orthotics can benefit patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Therefore, orthoses can treat joint-related morbidities.
